Those first wobbly independent steps are a milestone parents never forget. Most babies take their first steps between 9 and 15 months, with 12 months being the average. Walking opens up a whole new world of exploration.
Signs to Look For
- ✓Takes several steps without holding onto anything
- ✓Cruises confidently along furniture
- ✓Can stand independently for several seconds
- ✓Walks with a wide stance and arms out for balance
When to Talk to Your Pediatrician
Every child develops at their own pace. However, talk to your doctor if you notice:
- •Not walking by 18 months
- •Consistently walks on toes only
- •Walks with a significant limp or asymmetry
- •Previously walked but has stopped
