Motor Skills
Crawling
Typical age: 9 months
Crawling is your baby's first real form of independent transportation. While some babies skip traditional crawling in favor of scooting, rolling, or cruising, most begin crawling on hands and knees around 9 months.
Signs to Look For
- ✓Gets on hands and knees and rocks back and forth
- ✓Moves forward on hands and knees (classic crawl)
- ✓May army-crawl, scoot, or bear-walk instead
- ✓Crawls toward desired objects or people
When to Talk to Your Pediatrician
Every child develops at their own pace. However, talk to your doctor if you notice:
- •No form of mobility (crawling, scooting, rolling) by 12 months
- •Drags one side of the body while crawling
- •Cannot bear weight on hands and knees by 10 months
