Pulling to Stand

Typical age: 10 months

Pulling to stand is a major step toward walking. Around 10 months, babies use furniture, people, or anything sturdy to pull themselves upright. This builds leg strength and balance needed for cruising and walking.

Signs to Look For

  • Pulls up to standing using furniture or your hands
  • Stands while holding onto something for support
  • May bounce or bend knees while standing
  • Begins cruising (walking sideways while holding furniture)

When to Talk to Your Pediatrician

Every child develops at their own pace. However, talk to your doctor if you notice:

  • Cannot bear weight on legs by 12 months
  • No attempt to pull to stand by 12 months
  • Stands only on toes consistently
