Rolling Over

Typical age: 4 months

Rolling over is a thrilling milestone that usually begins around 4 months. Most babies roll from tummy to back first, then master back to tummy a month or two later. This milestone marks the beginning of independent mobility.

Signs to Look For

  • Rolls from tummy to back during play
  • Pushes up on arms during tummy time
  • Rocks side to side when on their back
  • May roll from back to tummy by 5-6 months

When to Talk to Your Pediatrician

Every child develops at their own pace. However, talk to your doctor if you notice:

  • No rolling in either direction by 6 months
  • Only rolls to one side consistently
  • Seems unable to push up on arms during tummy time
