Head Control

Typical age: 2 months

Head control is one of your baby's first major motor milestones. By around 2 months, most babies can briefly hold their head up during tummy time. This foundational skill is essential for sitting, rolling, and all later movement.

Signs to Look For

  • Holds head up briefly during tummy time
  • Head bobs less when held upright
  • Can turn head to follow objects or sounds
  • Lifts head 45 degrees while on tummy

When to Talk to Your Pediatrician

Every child develops at their own pace. However, talk to your doctor if you notice:

  • No attempt to lift head during tummy time by 3 months
  • Head consistently falls to one side
  • Neck appears very stiff or very floppy
