Norwegian Constitution Day Activities and Games: Garden Games, Indoor Games, and Family Fun for All Ages

Babysential TeamApril 17, 20263 min read

The children's parade, ice cream, and marching band music are at the heart of Norwegian Constitution Day for many families. But between the morning parade and bedtime in the evening, there are many hours to fill with something fun - especially when the children are young and their energy levels swing between grand joy and total exhaustion.

Good activities and games turn Norwegian Constitution Day into a celebration children remember, not just a day when they were dragged around in traditional clothes. With the right planning, you get games that fit your child's age, a plan B if the rain comes, and calm moments after the parade. In this guide, you will find everything you need - from sensory play for your baby to organized relay races for school-age children.

Activities by age: find what fits your child

Children at different ages have completely different needs. A six-month-old will experience the flag with their eyes and hands, while a five-year-old wants rules, points, and real speed. Here are games adapted by age.

6-12 months: sensory play

At this age, your baby explores the world with all their senses. Norwegian Constitution Day can be a lovely day for sensory stimulation if you keep it simple.

  • Flag ribbons: Make simple ribbons with red, white, and blue silk fabrics. Let your baby feel the texture, see the colors, and hold them up to the light.
  • Clapping to marching band music: Play a calm marching tune and take your baby's hands in yours. Clap steadily to the beat. Babies love rhythm.
  • Stacking game with red, white, and blue cups: Use soft plastic cups in the national colors. Your baby knocks them down - you build them up. Repeat.

1-2 years: recognition and movement

Toddlers who are starting to walk love repetition and big movements. Keep the activities short, but repeat them often.

  • Indoor flag parade: Give your child a small flag and march around the living room to music. Repeat as long as your child thinks it is fun.
  • Sing "Ja, vi elsker" with simple gestures: Raise the flag on "Ja", clap on "vi elsker". The song becomes a little choreography.
  • Balloons in red, white, and blue: Drop balloons from the air and let your child catch them. Simple joy of movement.

2-3 years: mini rule-based games
